Production Blog: First Day of Editing

Image
To start with editing I had to decide on which editing program to use. I researched for about 15 minutes before going back to CapCut. I thought CapCut would be easiest as I can edit it on my computer and on my phone. CapCut is also very simple to use. For the next step I needed to get the audio downloaded. On the opening scene I wanted light background noise. I went through Youtube for a bit and landed on sounds of birds chirping. Now, I needed to get the song on my computer. I used a Youtube to MP3 converter online and got MP3 files of the birds chirping and the song. I then had to wait a while for the songs to convert. Once they finished converting I uploaded it into CapCut. Then I went through all of the videos I got and my group members got. I looked through each of the videos to decide which ones to include. This process took around 30 minutes as we got a lot of footage when filming. Finally, I decided on 2 videos per activity to get multiple shots of each. I ended up getting rid

Production Blog: Filming Day Two

Image
I showed up to Dania Pointe for the second day ready to shoot. When I got their I had to wait a couple of minutes for the rest of my group to show up. After around 15 minutes Ayannah showed up. It seemed like no one else was coming so I decided to film the rest of Ayannah's scenes. I had her go over to the movie theater. I wanted to try and film a scene with her siting in the theater. I went up to the staff of the theater but they told us that we would not be allowed to film inside of an empty movie theater. So, I instead went over to the small arcade inside the movie theater. In there I directed Ayannah on what to do and filmed her playing different games. The first game I had her play was the claw machine. I had her intentionally not win a prize as the mood is supposed to be somber for her scenes. After the claw machine we went over and filmed her playing the basketball game alone. I tried angling her phone so that you could visibly see the song playing on it but it didn't wo

Production Blog: Beginning to Film

To begin the full group filming process everyone met up at Dania Pointe as planned. I coordinated schedules and times to accommodate everyone. Over the weekend on Saturday we all showed up at 11:00am. For today I decided to work on the second scene. The second scene consists of a split screen of the varying perspective of one side eating alone and one side eating with friends. So to set up I first had to find 2 separate areas of Dania Pointe to film. I walked around for about an hour scouting out filming locations. The first place I saw was a long strip of fake grass with a lot of tables around. I thought it would be a good place because it had a nice environment and background. The next area I found was shadowed and isolated. I thought that it would be a good idea to have our solo actor film there. I then walked around and found a couple of other spots but ultimately decided on the first two I found. After this I brought in the actors for the group scene. They all went and got ice cr

Production Blog: The Process of Creating the Storyboard

Image
For the next part of the music video my group and I had to create a storyboard. For the first step of this process, we had to pick someone to draw the images. Going one by one through the group helped us decide. Starting with Stanley, he was completely against drawing as he wasn't good at it. Moving past him I decided that I was in a similar position as him and would only do it if no one else is willing to. Then, I asked Ayannah. She said she was willing to do it but was a bit reluctant. Finally, I asked Nathaly who agreed to be the artist for the storyboard.  Once I had my artist picked out, I went back and forth with her to get the drawings accurate to the actual story. For the first frame I had her draw a picture of our actor waking up. In the next frame I told her to have an image of the actor receiving a text. Then for the next couple of frames I helped her visualize the three activities that the friends would do in the video. For the first one it was an image of the group si

Production Blog: Beginning Stages of Making the Music Video

After a song had been decided for the music video I wanted to label out an outline for the story of the video. When I got home from school I sat down and started writing. My group had already said that the song gave them a vibe of a "group trip" so I started with that idea. Once I listened to the song several times I realized that there was a sad connotation to the song. With both the group trip and sad message in mind I began to write out a story. I wanted the story to be about a group of friends leaving one of the friends behind. While writing the opening scene I had in my original draft the main character would receive a text about being uninvited. Then, in the next scene the main character runs outside and sees the group of friends driving away. The rest of the video, until the final scene, I wanted to be filmed as a split screen to show the comparison between the friend groups day and the solo friends day. I thought that showing a direct comparison would add a lot more i

Group Blog: Music Video

For this group I decided to work with the people I have sat with all year and worked with before on other project. The people in my group are Stanley, Ayannah, and Nathaly. The biggest reason I picked these three people to work with is because I know I work well with all of them. Each of them do have their own traits that make them better to work with. Ayannah is a good artist and will be useful for the storyboard. Nathaly is creative and can help with coming up with the idea for the music video. Finally, Stanley is a good writer and can help with writing all of the shared blogs. Once we established our group we had to decide a song for our music video to be about.  Nathaly showed everyone a pop song. While the song was okay we decided it didn't match well for this project. Then, Stanley gave a rap song. It was also a struggle to find a topic for the video to be about with that song. Finally, I showed the group a rock song. It is called "Take Me Out" by Franz Ferdinand.   Hello, my name is Benjamin Shanker and this is my blog. On this post I'll be going over general information about me. Where I go and went to school, my hobbies, my sports, and what I want to eventual be when I'm older. I am currently a 10th grader and attend Fort Lauderdale High School. At FLHS I am a part of the law program and take Cambridge courses. I first was attracted to this FLHS because I heard that it has a very prestigious law magnet. Ever since I was little I would read novels about lawyers and the law, my favorite was Theodore Boone by John Grisham, and ever since then I've wanted to become a lawyer. Now that I started attending FLHS I decided to do the Cambridge program on top of the law magnet so I can hopefully go to either FSU or UF using a Bright Futures scholarship. Before I attended FLHS I was homeschooled for several years. While being homeschooled I got ahead of the average student which is the reason I was able to get in to the law program. The only
